A continuing record of people whose work is shaping Namibia and reaching beyond it. We begin with a historical recap through 2026, then publish one researched profile every Wednesday.
THE FIRST READ · 16 OCT 2026
A story still being written.
From the independence movement and public institutions to Olympic medals, netball, research and education, influence takes many forms. Our opening recap sets the timeline and explains how we choose people and verify claims.
Wednesday profiles begin 21 October. The series will move across public service, science, education, sport, enterprise, arts and community leadership; it is a curated record, not a ranking.
WEEKLY ACHIEVEMENTS SCAN
Verified work worth knowing.
Opening scan · 8–16 October 2026
CRICKET · 13 OCT
Namibia closes League Two campaign with a win.
Namibia beat the United States by six wickets and finished fifth in the eight-team Cricket World Cup League Two table. That leaves a playoff route toward the 2027 qualifier; it is not direct qualification.
Namibian dryland research reaches an international ecology meeting.
UNAM PhD graduate Dr Faith Chambara presented findings from a five-year study of drought and grazing in Namibian rangelands at the Ecological Society of America’s 2026 meeting in Utah.
The University of Namibia lists 4,342 graduands across its 2026 graduation ceremonies. “Graduands” is the university’s term for people presented for graduation; this number is not a count of award winners.
A separate recent sports milestone: the Desert Jewels finished fourth at the 2026 Africa Cup and qualified for the 2027 Netball World Cup, their first return in 31 years. See World Netball’s qualifier record and The Namibian’s report. It falls outside this scan’s 9–16 October window, so it is noted separately.
WHAT WE TRACK EACH WEEK
From every sport code to the classroom.
SPORT · ALL RECOGNIZED CODES
Results, records and milestones
We review the Namibia Sports Commission’s sport-code and federation sources, plus governing bodies and event organizers. Coverage includes team and individual sports, disability sport, school and youth competition, coaching, officiating, records, qualification and community participation.
We follow learner and graduate distinctions, scholarships, research publications and prizes, innovations, arts and culture, enterprise, public service and community work. We separate a selection or announcement from a completed result and name the institution that verified it.
This is a curated, source-led tracker, not a claim to list every achievement in Namibia. Each weekly scan will show its dates, include primary or directly accountable sources where available, and explain gaps when records are not public. Suggest a person or achievement with a source through the contact desk.
